Jesscia Lou

I’m just a small-town English girl who drinks plenty of wine and cocktails! I also eat as much cake as I can get my hands on, birthday or not! I mean, how are any of us supposed to lose weight when the best part about life is food…

I’d love to tell you how interesting I am, and the amazing hobbies that I’m into, but the truth is I’m not very interesting – finding myself binging Netflix series’ and reading books the majority of the time.

I also absolutely adore going out for cocktails with friends, however, I am known to ‘accidentally’ have slightly too many, and end up embarrassing myself with some impeccable dancing. It’s alright though as long as my friends join in…

I found Wattpad a few years ago now, just looking for some good stories that I could binge. I’ve since fallen in love with the community and the support, making friends for life along my journey. I hope you all enjoy my books as much as I love writing them!

When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?

Back when I was a child I actually used to write stories for my parents, so I guess you could say that it’s been a very long time! I pushed any ideas of writing out of my head during my teenage years, instead focussing on getting to university and doing a degree. I have since found a career that I absolutely adore – nothing to do with writing – but in November 2019 I finally forced myself to sit down and write one of the many stories that circle my head on a daily basis and haven’t looked back since!

When did you write your first book and how old were you?

As mentioned in the previous question I was writing silly little stories as a child, however, my biggest love is The Test of Time, available to read on Wattpad. I was 22 when I started writing that story.

How long does it take to write?

It varies. Some days I can pour an entire chapter out onto a page, other times it could take me over a week to finish a chapter. The writer’s block is real… and it’s an absolute bitch!!

The amount of times I’ve nearly given up writing is incalculable!!

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

Read. There are so many incredible books out there, it really is true what they say… so much to do and so little time! There aren’t enough hours in the day!

I also enjoy socialising with my close friends as often as I can because let’s face it, laughter really is the best medicine!

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your book?

Perseverance! I have so many drafts on Wattpad of ideas for various stories that have built up since 2018. It was my partner who challenged me last year to actually publish and finish one, and I can’t believe I actually did it! Crazy!!!

What do you think makes a good story?

I LOVE DRAMA. I like to be surprised when I read a book, little plot twists or arks that you didn’t see coming!

However, a story is still good without drama – I adore character growth, I think that really makes you fall in love with the characters on a whole new level.

As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

I wanted to be a lawyer… I have no idea where the idea came from!

What quote inspired you and your life by?

‘A party without cake is really just a meeting.’

Noooo… (although it is a very good quote!) Really –

‘Destiny is for losers. It’s just a stupid excuse to wait for things to happen instead of making them happen.’ – Blair Waldorf

What movie or series character would you say describes you as a person?

I love food as much as Joey and Monica?! But the rest of my personality isn’t nearly as cool as them…

According to a certain someone (goes by the name Dark Romantic) I am Bridget Jones. She is adamant that I sound identical (I don’t). I’d like to say that’s the only similarity, but I can’t deny that I own a pair of Granny pants and also frequently make a fool out of myself!

What song inspires you?

Way toooo many songs to list one!

I wouldn’t say it inspires me, but when I was 16 I heard Lana Del Rey’s Born to Die for the first time and I was obsessed, listening over and over again. I’d still say that it’s my all-time favourite song. Should people be inspired by it?! Absolutely not!

When you wrote your first book, what inspired the story? What inspired the characters and were they based on people in real life?

I wish I could say something deep here, but honestly, I just started writing something in high school and suddenly Brett and Savannah were created. I don’t know where they came from.

The only character I know came from somewhere was Becky, my main character’s best friend. My childhood bully was called Becky and I, therefore, created the character to be an absolute bitch… it didn’t pan out that way!

Would you change anything from your first book?

Well, maybe… I guess you’ll have to stay tuned to see whether I have anything planned…

Is there a message in any of your books, what you would like people to take away from reading your books?

That people make mistakes. I’m not saying that the mistakes made in my books are by any means acceptable, but sometimes there’s more to it than what it appears to be. It can be hard, but sometimes people deserve second chances.

Why is reading a book better than watching the movie?

Whilst reading a book you hear all about the character’s emotions, and how they’re feeling. This draws you in and therefore gives you more of a connection to each character. I feel so much more attached to a book character than anyone on screen.

If they make a movie of your book who would you like to play your main character?

Throughout writing my book I never picture them as anyone, they literally don’t have a face! I want people to imagine the character’s as they wish… my aim is that people imagine the hottest guy they can think of – that’s Brett Winters. A sweet, beautiful blonde – that’s Savannah!

Imagine who you wish… that’s the beauty of books!

Do you like to read ebooks or paperback?

I prefer paperback overall, however, it’s so easy to get distracted and spend hours on my phone, especially going through Wattpad and finding new books! I’m trying to get back into paperback because I used to spend hours and hours reading them every single day.

Who is your favourite author?

There are too many authors for me to have a favourite, both on paperback and on Wattpad!!

Tell the people about your book and what it is about.

The Test of Time is about growing up and maturing over time. Everyone makes mistakes, when they’re young, and when they’re older! Throw in a bit of drama, add some maturity and BOOM, The Test of Time was born!!

The New England Series is something completely different. The idea has been sitting in my Wattpad drafts for two years and someone convinced me to go back to it. I still don’t know where it’s headed but it’s basically a dystopian society – there will be drama, maturity and blood!
